The International Trade Centre (ITC) is the joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations, with a mission to enhance the competitiveness of businesses in developing countries, driving economic growth and contributing to the UN's Millennium Development Goals. In partnership with ITC in the framework of NTF V Project, we had the opportunity to deliver a training program for SaaS SMEs and Startups benefiting from the NTF V project, funded by the Netherlands, in Africa, focusing on key aspects of digital business models. This two-part training, led by a senior business mentor, included a shared workshop session on SaaS strategies, followed by dedicated 1:1 sessions for selected companies to address their unique mentoring needs. We also integrated Digiole AI Assistants, based on the mentor's knowledge, to support participants throughout the program. Our Human + AI Hybrid approach combined tailored content, an interactive webinar, and follow-up coaching sessions to ensure a modern, AI-enhanced learning experience. Core Themes Covered in the Training The training addressed vital topics for SaaS startups, equipping participants with insights into essential terminology, key success and failure factors, and the primary focus areas at different phases of growth. It also explored strategies for maintaining balance within the business, transitioning from services to SaaS, understanding various markets, and achieving growth through expansion. Additionally, the program highlighted the importance of data and AI in modern SaaS models and introduced participants to platform business models as a potential avenue for scaling their ventures. Our Approach The training was structured around three key phases to maximize impact:
The Power of AI Assistance A standout aspect of this training was the integration of an AI Assistant. During the webinar, participants could access resources and ask questions directly to the AI, enhancing their learning experience in real time—including in languages beyond those spoken by the mentor. The AI Assistant continued to support startups after the webinar, providing guidance on SaaS models, answering questions, and allowing participants to revisit concepts at their own pace. It was a great experience to collaborate with Digiole, as part of the NTF V project, for the webinar and coaching sessions on Saas business models. We particularly appreciated the rich and dense content that was shared with the Startups present and the advice and recommendations to Assuraf (Senegal), Farmeline (Ghana), Data Care & Tripesa (Uganda) during One2one sessions This partnership with ITC marks an important step toward innovative learning interactions in the startup ecosystem, blending human expertise with AI-powered support to help startups grow sustainably in competitive markets.
